The
is an IM 365 interface module used to connect an expansion rack (ER) to a central controller (CC) in an S7-300 automation system configuration. The module comes as a pair, connected by a fixed 1-meter cable, and provides a cost-effective way to expand the I/O capacity without needing a separate power supply for the extension rack.
- System Expansion: Enables the configuration of a central controller and one expansion unit (rack).
- Integrated Power Supply: The modules in the expansion unit are supplied power via the CPU power supply of the central controller, so no separate external 24 V DC power supply is required for the expansion rack.
- Configuration Limits: It supports a maximum of one expansion rack, and the combined system (central controller + expansion rack) can have up to 8 modules in total.
- Limited Module Use: The IM 365 does not route the communication (C) bus to the expansion rack. Therefore, communication processors (CPs) and function modules (FMs) that require the C bus cannot be used in the expansion rack when connected with the IM 365.
- Easy Installation: The interface modules are mounted on the DIN rail and are self-configuring, simplifying installation and address assignment.
